Keeping your golf shoes in peak condition during the season is important not only for aesthetics, but performance too! After all, you are going to be walking many miles with them on the course. It’s also important to stop any dirt that accumulates from gathering in the place you store them. How best to accomplish this? Well, a good start is to buy an excellent golf shoe bag. Golf shoe bags have been gaining in popularity over the last few years, and are now a staple among Pro Shops around the US. In this piece I will take a look at some of the best golf shoe bags out on the market. I’ll show you what to look for, and even give you some of our favorite picks out there. Let’s dive in.
Buyers Guide to the Best Golf Shoe Bags
There are plenty of choices for golf shoe bags, but some are much better than others. Here are the things that you need to be looking for when choosing.
This is a biggie, of course. You want to be able to fit your shoes inside with relative ease. There’s nothing worse than having to get your hands dirty trying to squeeze a pair of muddy golf shoes into a tiny bag. With smaller golf shoe bags, you’ll find that there is more stress placed on the zippers too, which is a common point of failure.
All of the above said you don’t want something too big. Otherwise, your golf shoes will move around. You may find that the spikes of each will damage the other.
This is a fancy way of saying ‘opening’. You will need a golf bag to have a wide opening that allows you to easily and quickly remove your shoes when you need them. Look for features like a zippable front panel. I’ve always tried to steer clear of golf shoe bags that just have a single slit running straight up the middle of the bag, as this is typically a sign of poor quality.
The best golf shoe bags are easy to carry. You should be looking for at least one handle as an absolute minimum. Some golf shoe bags even have included straps that let you carry them backpack style.
The finish is very much a personal choice, but remember, you will be pulling shoes with fairly sharp spikes in and out of the bag. For that reason, I always tend to choose a finish that will not show scratches easily. I avoid any shiny materials like PVC and instead go for golf shoe bags with a matte finish. The finish will also dictate the style of the bag, which is something to bear in mind.
The lining is important for several reasons.
Fluffy linings are good, but they aren’t for everyone. With constant use, combined with water and dirt, you’ll find that the interior of your new golf shoe bag starts to look old very quickly.
One great feature which you’ll often find on the best golf shoe bags is an antibacterial lining. When moisture and dirt accumulate, it can provide the ideal place for bacteria to breed.
Do you know what that means?
You’ll end up with a really nasty-smelling shoe bag. This will then soak into your golf shoes… You’ll be famous on your local course for all the wrong reasons.
Golf Shoe Bag Padding
One of the main purposes of a golf shoe bag (aside from protecting your trunk) is to protect your shoes. The most effective way to do this is with a golf shoe bag containing padding. It doesn’t need to be super thick, but just enough to cushion and protect your pair or pairs.
When talking golf shoe bags, waterproofing is a two-way deal. You want to make sure that if you are transporting your shoes in inclement weather, they are kept nice and dry, ready for your round.
On the flip side, if you have been playing in the rain, the last thing you want is for your bag to start leaking water all over your closet or car.
Be sure to choose a bag that has a decent degree of waterproofing, especially if you like to play in all weather conditions.
A good golf shoe bag should cater to more than just shoes. You might find that you want to bring other things along for the ride.
Well, in my golf shoe bag, I normally carry the following…
- A stiff brush
- Spare spikes
- Waterproofing spray
- A spare pair of dry socks
- A shoehorn
- A spare pair of laces (pro tip, right here)
- Band-aids (for blisters… ouch)
I can do this because my golf shoe bag has plenty of accessory pockets to store these essentials.
It’s really simple. The more pockets, the better!
Let’s be honest. Price is going to be a huge deciding factor when you are deciding on the best shoe bag.
Here’s the good news.
You don’t need to spend a fortune to get something really great. While I would consider this essential, for the vast majority of its life, it will be sat in the trunk of your car or at the bottom of your locker. Pick something that is good quality but doesn’t break the bank.
The Best Golf Shoe Bags of 2021
When I saw this golf shoe bag, my first thought was, ‘Wow, that looks really classy’. It really is a great-looking bag. The outer of the bag is made from a single piece and is constructed from a highly durable Cordura.
If you haven’t heard of this before, it is super durable and tough nylon. It also happens to be 100% waterproof too!
There are other nice things to note too…
When your shoes are loaded, the bag is designed to stand upright. This is a great feature if you are going to be storing it in a locker.
I also really like the chunky YKK zippers. The zip is one area that is prone to failing even on the best golf shoe bags. With this particular model, this isn’t going to happen.
As a nice aside, you’ll also get an included deluxe shoehorn.
The bag features an interior mesh pocket, perfect for storing bits and pieces. I also like that it has two drain and ventilation holes on its front, perfect if your shoes need to dry out a little.
- Included extras
- Durable and chunky zips
- Great design
There’s quite a lot to like about this golf shoe bag. The first thing that stood out to me was the price. It is really great value!
Price aside, the features are pretty good. I really like the oversized side pockets. They’ll give you plenty of room to fit a whole manner of golfing paraphernalia.
The bag is made from woven polyester and has a sort of canvas feel. It is really durable and offers a small degree of water resistance.
The side of the bag features mesh vents. This is a vital feature if you want to keep your golf shoes fresh and aerated.
One thing I’m not so keen on is the size of the opening. It can sometimes be a little bit of a struggle to get your shoes in. It is fine when they are dry, but it isn’t as fun when they are all dirty and muddy. The white zip is another thing that I think could be better. This starts to look dirty and a little tired quite quickly.
All of that said, for the money, it is a relatively good buy.
- Superb value
- Budget option
- Great for storage
This is another option that is great value. This bag has been made with an internal foam structure, keeping it rigid. This makes it really easy to move your shoes in and out of the bag.
This bag has a slightly sleeker, low-profile look than some others on my list. If you struggle for space in your trunk or locker, this would be a fabulous choice.
One thing I really like is the large front opening. The bag can comfortably accommodate most sizes of shoes.
Yeah, one or two.
First, the color scheme really isn’t for me. But that’s just personal preference.
I would have liked to have seen a few more pockets too. There is a small zippered section on the front of the main flap, but I would feel a little limited as to what I could keep in there. All that said, this is the price you pay for having a bag that is slightly more compact than standard golf shoe bags.
Negatives aside, I really like the mesh panels. These are large and will keep your bag (and therefore your shoes) really fresh. Another nice feature is the included carabiner. This will allow you to clip this shoe bag to your golf bag for hands-free carrying.
- Low profile
- Rigid design
- Included karabiner
I haven’t forgotten about the ladies out there. While a men’s golf shoe bag would work, sometimes you just want something that looks a little more classy. This bag is a real accessory!
It is made of a mixture of quilted nylon with a strong polyurethane base. It looks really chic. The base will prevent your trunk from becoming soaked if you’ve got wet shoes, and the padded and quilted body of the bag will keep your golf shoes in tip-top condition.
I know that girls like to have a bit of choice. The good news is that this bag comes in a couple of different colors. The standard is black and brown. However, there is a white version available too. My preference would be black and brown as the white tends to show dirt rather easily.
I really like the chunky handle. While it isn’t real leather, it certainly looks like it!
- Super classy looks
- Great padding
- Multiple colors available
Imagine if you could have something the exact same size as a shoebox but had a handle. Well, now you can.
This clever little bag is a little barebone and basic, but it will do the job for sure.
Essentially it looks like a red Nike shoe box. In truth, it is a padded bag that is perfect for storing golf shoes. Its standout feature is how it opens. The entire side of the bag zips open, and putting your shoes in is literally as easy as putting them in a box.
The only downside to this bag is that there aren’t any accessory pockets at all, so if you are looking for a bit of storage, you might want to give one of my other suggestions a try.
- Famous golf brand
- Striking color
- Simple and smart
Footjoy has been a market leader in golf shoes for as long as I can remember. The good news is that their golf shoe bags are every bit as good as their shoes!
This is a mid-priced golf shoe bag that is worth every penny. It is constructed from highly durable navy blue nylon, which is also waterproof. There is also a large exterior accessory pocket for storing all of your bits and pieces.
The dual zippers located on the bag’s front allow you to fold the front open entirely, giving you really easy access. I also really like the large iconic ‘FootJoy logo emblazoned on the front of the bag.
The handle is substantial and chunky, making carrying easy too.
The final icing on the cake is the inclusion of two small ventilation inserts. These will keep your golf shoe bag odor and moisture-free.
- Best shoe brand in golf
- Highly durable
- Comfortable carrying
I’m normally a big believer in the phrase “you get what you pay for”; however, you are getting unbelievable value.
Not only do you get a really great golf shoe bag, but you also get some nice accessories to go with it. This set includes a spike wrench and a handy little golf shoe brush to keep your shoes looking their best!
The golf shoe bag is pretty sweet too. It is a decent size and has absolutely huge mesh panels. These panels mean that your golf shoes will be able to dry out really quickly.
The front zip area is a good size too.
The only thing I can think of is that I would have liked to have seen a little more padding in the bag. It isn’t rigid either, so it doesn’t stand up and is just a little floppy.
All that said, for the money, I think this golf shoe bag is worth every penny!
- Lots of extras
- Low price
- Plenty of storage
Callaway is a big brand when it comes to all things golf. This golf shoe bag is a little basic, but it is really well made.
The front opening and capacity of this bag are colossal. Two chunky dual zips allow really easy access. The interior is padded, protecting your shoes, and it is also lined with durable blue nylon. It is pretty smart.
The handle of this bag is padded too, so if you have a long walk from the carpark to the clubhouse, this could be the one for you.
Ventilation is excellent on this shoe bag. Both bottom corners of the bag have sizeable mesh vents.
I expected to see a little more storage from Callaway. If this had been included, I’d say this was one of the best golf shoe bags around.
- Simple and effective
- High-quality lining
- Good ventilation
Considering that Adidas is a major name on the golf circuit, I’d expect this bag to be much pricier! This has pretty much everything you need. Plenty of room, designer label, storage, ventilation, the works!
The black and charcoal finish is also very nice looking and isn’t too in your face.
I’d be saying this is absolutely perfect. Except. The handle is just a little bit flimsy. This isn’t a deal-breaker, but even less well-known brands seem to have included this.
That said, for the price, this is superb value!
- Premium budget option
- Nice finish
- Good storage
Still, got questions? Here are the things that most people want to know about the best golf shoe bags.
What is a Golf Shoe Bag?
Golf shoe bags are small containers that are purpose-built to carry and protect golf shoes. They normally have features like extra ventilation, padding, and a carry handle. They also have large front openings to allow easy access.
Do You Keep Your Shoes in Your Golf Bag?
Nope, absolutely not! You don’t want to do this!
Golf bags don’t have ventilation, so those muddy shoes are going to start to stink. Also, they don’t have padding. Golf shoes can be expensive. If they are crushed, then they can start to get folds and damage. This allows water in and can also make them really uncomfortable.
What is the Best Golf Shoe Bag?
For the money, I’d say that the best golf shoe bag is the Club Glove Shoe Bag II Shoe Bag. It has plenty of storage, chunky zippers, and you even get a nice little shoehorn thrown in as part of the deal. There is very little that I don’t like about this bag.
When I started looking at golf shoe bags, I was shocked by the differences between them. The best golf shoe bags are more than a means to carry your shoes. They actually help to prolong the life of your shoes. By buying one, you could be saving money in the long run. Which was your favorite on the above list? Why not let me know in the comments!
